Underrated 60 minute draw. I've always dug this a lot as one of the earliest examples out there of two guys putting on a slow-burning heavyweight title match that progressively escalates into an epic stretch run. The matwork is basic but engaging, and they build to some really good near falls for the stretch run. I was really impressed by Bruno in this as the WWWF stuff doesn't really have him working long mat-based contests like this one.

I'll second this. I actually weirdly like this match a lot.

I third this. Sammartino sucked for the most part, but Baba always got something enjoyable out of him. Zbyszko is the only other person I've seen do that.

This was an excellent hour-or-so-long draw. The first two falls had them feeling each other out with armbars and the like and each taking a fall. Then after Bruno won the second fall they picked up the pace including a criss-cross shoulder-block spot. Bruno was doing his power moves and Baba was throwing chops to the head. It really had the fans eating it up when the bell rang. A match that deserves its reputation.

I think both of these guys are awesome wrestlers but even I'm nervous about the idea of a 60min match between them. But goddamn this is awesome. Definitely slow at times but also some really great moments. Baba is awesome at criss cross rope running sequences & this has a great one. Bruno has some classic Bruno flurries. Really great selling performance from Baba. Great match. Exceeded expectations.
