For Christian, the head of AEW's legal team followed him on Instagram. Could mean nothing, but I'd rather have him than Angle.

Yeah... now I'm seeing lots of buzz around it being Christian. I sort of think of him in the same category as Angle, myself. He is talented and could certainly add to the show, but he just isn't exciting to me. Again, in the moment I'll probably mark out haha

Look, I'm a big fan of Christian as a worker. But promising the signing of a huge star in the world of wrestling and delivering him would be a TNA-level move. He'd be cool as the mystery entrant in the ladder match, though.

Well, having watched December/Jan/Feb/last Wed's Dynamite in the space of a week, I just bought a PPV for the first time ever. (Majorly lapsed fan, and back in the 90s when I first started watching we used to get the big shows free in the UK.) Having tried to get back into current wrestling a couple of times over the past decade, and never found anything to hold my interest, AEW is really clicking for me. Not everything - Jesus wept Sting/Darby/Taz felt like it would never end - but Page, Cassidy and of course SILVER are three guys I'm marking out for hard and I'm genuinely excited about most of the matches. Intrigued to see who the surprise is, as well!

Omega/Mox was amazing. I know it's goin to sound like blasphemy, but this is the best explosive barbed wire match I've seen. They innovated so much and Moxley put so much passion on everything he did and went through, it was insane. My current 2021 MOTY for sure.
The timebomb was ridiculous tough. What a shame.

I really enjoyed the card last night overall
I thought the tag title match overdelivered in a way. It was a Bucks match so if that isn't your jam you probably weren't going to love it, but I really thought they built the drama in it well.
The casino tag was excellent as well. It felt like a well constructed rumble. Lots of good story beats interwoven.
Match of the night for me was the women's title match (at least normal match of the night). I thought it was really well done and they had me absolutely biting on the false finishes at the end.
Miro/Kip vs Cassidy/Taylor was solid for what it was. I am really done with that feud, but this match was perfectly fine.
Page vs Hardy was also fine. Page is so good right now and he didn't disappoint.. This was not something I was particularly taken with before the show and this match felt very "there" to me. That isn't an insult, but it didn't jump off the screen.
The ladder match was a lot of fun. Some great spots and dynamics. I liked the surprise entry. It had plenty to enjoy and didn't feel over thought for a match that is often overthought. The Cody stuff was maybe the closest they got to that.
Christian being the surprise was fine. It was expected. I'd probably like it more if I hadn't (knowingly) worked myself for unreasonable expectations. I have no doubt they will use him well. Once again, having a name talent show up in a company like 5 weeks after being in the Royal Rumble is some 90s wrestling vibes... but in a good way.
I LOVED that Sting/Darby vs Cage/Starks match. I thought it was one of the best cinematic matches I have seen, maybe the best. I'm really looking forward to watching it again. Incredible stuff.
The main event.... oh the main event. I'm probably closer to Tetsujin than I am to what I am seeing on the twitter machine. I thought the match was a lot of fun. It walked a pretty fine line between tribute and cosplay at points, but I thought their facial expressions were on point for the selling. I thought they leaned into what they were doing. The camera angles on some of the bigger spots were perfect. I was pretty invested. I hate to be that guy, but I didn't like the good brothers coming in. It makes sense in story I suppose, but it took me out of what they were building just a touch. The elephant in the room is the explosion at the end. I'm not going to sugar coat it. That sucked. I don't buy them trying to sell that it was part of the plan, that kenny can't build an exploding ring very well. Look... nice try for the save, but it was a dud finish. Shit happens, it took a lot of air out of the moment. Whatever. That said, I'm not going to let shitty pyro ruin Eddie Kingston's redemption story. Him coming to save Mox was awesome. He was put in an incredibly shitty spot to have to decide if he will sell it or not. The company switching gears is now kinda throwing his decision to do so under the bus. I have faith they will correct the course enough, but yeah... it aint great. I may try to rewatch this and a few others if I can find them today. I ordered on PPV so I don't get a rewatch, which kind of sucks.

Putting the aftermath aside, the main event was stellar. That OWA spot where Moxley kicks the barbed-wire is an all-time spot for me. Not quite my MOTY those, I'd call it 2nd best MOTY so far.

I'm in the same boat: good show, great main event, awful closing angle. It's a shame, because Kenny-Mox was the perfect 21st century version of an FMW match. Built to the explosions while also seamlessly integrating weapons and their normal offensive repertoires.

Thoughts from me:
Really enjoyed the 2 women's matches - Britt and Rebel are just such a great heel combo; Itoh looked cool, and they did a great job of delivering two good matches and also using the post-match stuff after the title match to build to a contest I'm excited to see on Dynamite.
Tag title match was really good, and I'm assuming we're going to see MJF push for control of the Inner Circle on Wednesday.
I loved the tag battle royal, despite a couple of less than great moments (Evil Uno - argh.) I thought it did a good job of showcasing various teams I haven't really seen (due to not watching Dark) and then the ending was awesome, despite how much I wanted Silver to win. REALLY want Silver vs PAC at some point, but Death Triangle vs Bucks should be great.
Miro/Kip vs OC/Chuck - This was fine, and Miro's being built up well. I love that he comes across as a completely serious threat despite the goofy humour. I obviously wanted Orange to win because he's AMAZING, but ah well.
Page vs Hardy - I wish Page had won this quicker - Hardy doesn't seem like he should be on AP's level at this stage of his career - but loved the fun, heartwarming ending. Decent match overall.
Ladder match - Cool to see Ethan Page here, but didn't do much for me overall.
Christian Cage segment - Okay, I think Christian is a good signing but wow that felt overhyped by Khan. Also seemed weird he didn't talk. And I really don't like the new catchphrase.
Cinematic match - I was NOT interested in this because the build-up sucked through being so repetitive, IMO, but they did a great job of making me care anyway. Darby rocks. Would really like to see less of Sting going forward though.
Main event - V good match although WOW I'm not a fan of interference in general and having it in so many of the matches was really annoying me.
Ending - Oh no. Dammit. I have no clue where they go with the angle from here, but not loving the "That was the plan all along" compared to the announcers and Kingston selling it as if it had been horrifically damaging. (Not a criticism of Kingston or the announce team, just the Khan spin on it.)
Overall, I liked the show a lot, and am almost certainly buying the next PPV. Just wish the ending hadn't jumped the shark like that.

Wondering if anyone in this group watched the return of CM Punk last night. I don’t know if there is any current wrestling product that is right for me right now, but I wanted to tune in and I definitely got the chills and felt emotional watching.
Punk is the biggest reason why I got back into watching wrestling in earnest. I had been inconsistent starting in the mid-2000s or so, and then after the Benoit murders I was out. When I started dipping my toe back in the straight edge society was really interesting and then I was on board after the pipe bomb.
Watching him last night, it was amazing to see the raw positive emotion on his face and when he jumped into the crowd it felt really cathartic. I guess part of what was so affecting was... I don’t I have been thinking about the relationship that I have and guys I know have with their jobs and where they work. I just seemed like he had gotten through the other side of a bad experience, was able to get through the trauma of all of it and finally be genuinely happy. I know he has a rep as a difficult guy and a curmudgeon, but based on the work he has put in, the environment, and god knows what else, it seems like he has made it to a place where that is not as dominant a part as who he is right now. Seeing that kind of change was really powerful.
Maybe I am worked or maybe I am projecting and seeing what I want to see because of my own mental health journey and trying to find that positivity and constructive side within myself. But that was what I was seeing last night and was wondering how people were affected.

Punk's return felt like the biggest wrestling moment since Edge returning and Naito winning the title at the Dome last year. Say what you want about AEW, but they know and care about building big moments. Personally, I was emotional as hell, I felt so happy for Punk because I know he lost his passion for a good amount of years and he needed another big northamerican wrestling company to get that passion back.
Punk/Darby already feels like a MOTYC, but imo a big, hatred feud with Moxley would be money.
