I’ve been trying to keep track of my match ratings. These are my Top Tier AEW matches (anything over ****) does anybody have any suggestions of matches I should try to revisit ? 5/25/2019 Cody v. Dustin Rhodes ****1/2 11/9/2019 Cody v. Chris Jericho **** 2/26/2020 Kenny Omega v. PAC **** 2/29/2020 Orange Cassidy v. PAC ****1/2 2/29/2020 Hangman/Omega v. Young Bucks ****1/4 9/16/2020 Best Friends v. Santana/Ortiz **** 12/30/2020 Hangman/Reynolds/Silver v. MJF/Santana/Ortiz - 3/7/2021 Darby Allin/Sting v. Brian Cage/Ricky Starks - 5/12/2021 Darby Allin v. Miro **** 5/30/2021 Eddie Kingston/Jon Moxley v. Young Bucks **** 5/30/2021 Kenny Omega v. Orange Cassidy v. PAC **** 9/5/2021 Eddie Kingston v. Miro **** 9/5/2021 CM Punk v. Darby Allin ****1/2 9/22/2021 Bryan Danielson v. Kenny Omega ****1/2 11/13/2021 CM Punk v. Eddie Kingston ***** 12/15/2021 Bryan Danielson v. Hangman Page ****3/4 1/5/2022 Bryan Danielson v. Hangman Page ***** 2/2/2022 CM Punk v. MJF ****3/4 Jon Moxley vs Brodie Lee (5/23/2020) FTR vs Page/Omega (9/5/2020)* Brodie Lee vs Cody (Dog Collar – 10/7/2020) Adam Page vs Kenny Omega (#1 Contenders – 11/7/2020) FTR vs Young Bucks (11/7/2020) Darby Allin vs Brian Cage (1/13/2021) Jon Moxley vs Satoshi Komjima (9/5/2021 Sting and Darby Allin vs FTR (9/22/2021) Bryan Danielson vs Dustin Rhodes (10/23/2021) Bryan Danielson vs Miro (11/13/2021)* Darby Allin/Sting/CM Punk vs MJF/FTR (12/22/2021) *Matches I particularly think are underrated on the whole. I’m assuming you just don’t have Dragon v Suzuki or Dragon v Kingston that high anymore. I really have dropped on both of those matches. I still really like them but there’s enough missing that I’m not as fond as I once was. Now… that Dustin match I remember more fondly though.

I don't know who all here watched it, but AEW was mad this week. Not an all timer or anything, but just bonkers. - Jeff Jarrett is apparently in AEW now (which I am actually pretty cool with) and he has joined up with Jay Lethal's crew (less cool with) - Colt Cabana came back in what has to be read as TK's first middle finger to Punk - Mother fucking SHIBATA showed up and is having a match with Orange Cassidy on Friday. - Rick Ross cut an absolute awesome promo aligning himself with Swerve
Just felt like an insane, fever dream show.

It was a strange week. A definite shift from the things that appeal to me. But yet I didn’t think it was bad. The Shibata/Orange Cassidy match is something I am quite looking forward to. Quite possibly the ONLY Shibata match I’m looking forward to. A Danielson match kinda makes me nervous because Shibata had his brain removed or whatever Meltzer said. Give me a clever OC match. I think this episode felt different, felt like a shift and I don’t know if it’s good or bad. BUT, Eddie Kingston and MJF are on roster and we got Jeff Jarrett, so it’s actually bad.

Shibata v Orange was dope. It clearly took a minute to get on the same page, but that is to be expected. I wouldn't say Shibata looked 100%, but 85% of his physicality is roughly 120% for everyone else. I still very much want Dragon v Shibata. I will trust that they are not going to put him in a dangerous position, at least no more dangerous than a regular wrestling match and there isn't anyone I'd trust more than Dragon.
Last week felt a bit like gonzo TK and it has been a while since we have seen that. Much of what was there wasn't for me in a vacuum, but I was ok with as a way to mix things up a touch.
Full Gear is starting to come together. It still feels like it will probably not be their strongest PPV and I'm sort of glad I don't have to choose to buy it or not. Even still, they could add a few things that would all the sudden make this feel really well rounded.
I need whatever they are doing with Kingston to get moving. It remains absolutely criminal to keep him off the tv and without clear traction for this long.

That promo Kingston cut with him clearly trying to hold back his rage was awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing where they eventually go with it. As for Shibata vs OC, it was awesome. Shibata has only had two matches this year, so ring rust is to be expected, but man that was a good time.

A few quick thoughts from last night's Dynamite
Mox v MJF is really hitting its stride. There are so many ways it can go, so many unknowns. It is going to be a blast.
I think I might have to come to terms with the fact that I like Jeff Jarrett, at least in small doses. I never really thought of myself as a guy who likes Jeff Jarrett, but I sort of dug his whole promo and presentation last night and I'm kind of excited for his tag match. I have no real interest in Jay Lethal and remain absolutely dumbfounded that he is continuously featured on my TV (which they went out of their way to do this week), but other than that, I'm weirdly into the match.
Also, I genuinely want Dutt v Danhausen on the buy in.
Bryan Danielson is so casually the best wrestler in the world. It is absolutely bonkers. That 2/3 falls match was quite good. For the most part, most of the things that feel like contrivances in Sammy's matches worked well here. I know a lot of folks are having better, or at least more shiny years, but I remain steadfast that there is no better wrestler in the world than Danielson and he can prove it at the drop of a hat.
Acclaimed v Swerve/Lee is going to be a blast.

My interest in AEW is at its lowest point since the last time Mox and MJF faced each other. Which ironically was the only thing I was interested in on both occasions.
I wish I was not ambivalent toward Danielson at the moment.

I just found out Jun Akiyama is going to be on fucking Rampage this week! Holy shit! I feel like I'm late to this party, but I suppose this is the downside to not getting on twitter anymore. I really really hope they book a singles match between Jun and Kingston for the ppv.

I finally got to watch Full Gear and thought it was a really tremendous PPV. I didn't suffer from fatigue because I watched it in pieces over 3 days, so maybe that helped.
Zero Hour: Watched most of this in the background, but was glued to Kignston v Akiyama. I absolutely loved the match. It wasn't anything out of this world, but it was a feel good match that delivered the goods. The finish with Kingston going over clean as a sheet was awesome.
Jungle Boy vs Luchasaurus: Awesome opener. Great pace and action. Luchasaurus looked good on top and Jungle Boy sold like a mother fucker. That had to have been the most non-contrived destroyer I have ever seen. Loved the fire from Jungle Boy. This was very much a tip of the hat to Taker/HBK, but remained really rooted in their own history.
Death Triangle vs The Elite: A fun cocaine trios match. I've never been super into the my turn-your turn spots, but I feel very over them and wasn't into that part of the match. Even still, this featured a lot of pace and athleticism to carry the pace and energy from the opener. It was fun to see the elite back. Shame we got the anti-punk chants. I'm ready to put it all behind us to be honest.
Cargill vs Rose: I'm not going to lie... the highlight of this match was Cargill's gear (respectfully). Cargill has such a presence. She is a star. She still needs to hit her stride in the ring. Sometimes she knocks it out of the park and other times there seems to be a disconnect. This felt like the latter. It wasn't all bad. Cargill continues to build that championship, but it feels like they need to sort out an exit strategy for her before it becomes a bigger challenge than it should be.
Claudio v Danielson v Jericho v Sammy: One of my two favorite matches of the night. I absolutely adored this. They did a great job weaving the stories together and making you want to see more of combos like Claudio v Dragon and Claudio v Sammy. I heard some folks on a podcast really down on the finish, so I assume this was a thing on the twitter machine, but I thought they worked through it really well. Maybe if the comentary team had outright said something like "judas effect to the stomach" it wouldn't even have stuck out that much. Didn't bother me at all. I thought this was tremendous. Something I'll have to watch again before I finalize my MOTY list.
Saraya v Baker: I hated the build to this, but everyone seemed up for the match itself and that really helped. For what this match could be I thought it was solid. The energy and emotion of the match might serve as a good reset for this whole thing and everyone involved, which would be nice.
Joe v Hobbs v Wardlow: This felt a bit like it underwhealmed me given how excited I was for this hoss fight. It wasn't bad, but it didn't blow me away. I'll also never really be upset with Joe winning a match like this. It was a bit of a surprise and I suspect it is just a way to Wardlow on the ROH ppv. I think this is sort of win-win. If we get Wardlow v Joe at the ppv and Wardlow wins it back... COOL. This has been an OK reign. They could amp up his second reign. If we get any other permutation of these three (triple threat rematch or Hobbs v Joe) or even something else and Wardlow winds up moving on... COOL. Wardlow moving on from what has been a fine reign without being pinned for his belt would be ok with me. He has still been on an upward trajectory and there are lots of potential feuds for him out there.
Sting/Darby v Jarrett/Lethal: Never bet against a Sting/Darby match. This was so much fun. Singh's spot with Darby was absolutely insane. Jarrett had his working boots on. One of the better Lethal performances (I say that as not a huge Lethan fan myself). Sting and Darby vs the entire world of pro wrestling... please and thank you!
Hayter v Storm: This might be my favorite women's match in AEW history. Holy shit. I'm a huge Hayter fan and am super pumped for her to be champ, but Storm worked her ass off. She has a really good reign and, unfortunately for her, she was in the ring with one of the most white-hot wrestlers in the company. This was absolutely awesome. They had me biting on so many near falls. I was 100% invested. Another match I'll have to revisit before I finalize my MOTY list.
Acclaimed v Swerve/Lee: I put this right along side Hayter/Storm and the ROH Title Match as the highlights of the night. This was some pitch perfect storytelling. Keith Lee really stood out in that regard, but everyone knocked the narrative out of the park. The arm injury added an awesome layer to this. I think I preferred this to their other two matches. It had such depth and the finish was extremely well executed and rewarding.
MJF v Mox: It took guts to book this kind of world title match after a long ppv. I thought this was pretty good stuff on the whole. It was an awesome dynamic between Mox just believing he was better than MJF and being almost dismissive of him as a challenge was palpable in the match. MJF walking that line between heel and face in the way he worked this and played to the audience made the somewhat predictable finish that much more amazing. There were multiple ways I thought this could go, but Regal siding with MJF was by far the most interesting to me.
Overall, I thought this show was pretty awesome. A few really good to great matches and quite a bit to sink one's teeth into coming out of this.

Absolute banger Dynamite last night I thought. I really really liked Joe vs Darby. I think Joe's deliberate pace really helped set this apart from some of the other great Darby vs big guy matches. Not that it blew the others out of the water, but joe put his signature on it.
While the just insult your opponent promo isn't my favorite, I really liked the segment with Starks and MJF. As much as I like Starks and as hot as he has been lately, they had some work to do to elevate him to MJF/world title picture level and I think having him cut that promo in front of that crowd was a quality step in that direction.
The main event was also really really good and made me want to see this match-up again on a ppv. Pitch-perfect ending for something like that too. FTR looked like the better team on the whole, but they just came up against the hotter team on the hotter streak that is in the middle of a big level-up. The match stayed true to the story of each team and it didn't feel like anyone came out worse for it. And that announcement at the end.... I am absolutely amped. I do think the lengths they are going to keep the Briscoes off TV are sort of silly at this point. It feels a bit like a case where positive, productive, and well-earned sensibilities regarding LGBTQ+ folks and homophobia are perhaps applied as too much of a blunt instrument. By all accounts they have grown and matured in their understanding and views. I can't help but wonder to what extent there is some class coding that is hanging over this. That is, though, a bigger question for a different day. For now... FTR VS BRISCOES IN A DOUBLE DOG COLLAR MATCH - LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO!

I know I am probably the high guy on AEW here, but anyone else watching Doubly or Nothing tonight? I feel like the general consensus is kind of low on this PPV, but I think it is really strong. MFJ v Sammy v Darby v Jungle Boy: I get why folks don't like the main event build (though I don't think it was THAT bad and commend them for taking a chance) and I think that is really coloring the general mood around the show. I like that they tried to build different dynamics between each person because I'm on the hook for what Jungle Boy does for example, even if I am about 99.99999% I know who wins the match. Anarchy in the Arena: OH FUCK YES. This is 100% my jam. I said it elsewhere, but there is no way this lives up to my expectations. Given how the last one delivered, the people involved, and how absolutely in love with Heel BCC I am, I am amped for this. Hayter vs Storm: My expectations are only tempered a touch by the fact that Hayter is dealing with injuries, but their last match was awesome and they are two of my favorites in the company. This could quietly compete for match of the night. FTR v Jarret and Lethal: This should be a blast, especially with Mark Briscoe as the special guest ref. Jarrett has been a treat and his whole group kinda rules. I fully expect FTR to win, but I expect to be on the hook for at least one near fall. Jade vs Taya: I know Sleeze and I are on opposite pages with this, but I'm just not into this build. I love Jade and she deserves better. Taya has been good in her role so far, but there has just not been a lot of creative energy put into this, especially since their first match. I hope they make me look foolish for not being excited for this, but here we are. House of Black vs : I expect this to be The Acclaimed and Gunn and I'm really not sure why they decided to not announce it ahead of time. They could be pulling something really awesome or at least really fun out here. HOB just rule bell to bell so if nothing else we are getting them tearing it up. Blackjack Battle Royal: OC has been one of the best champions in wrestling, slowly giving into injuries, but hanging onto his title by a thread. I think he loses it here and I have mixed feelings about it. I'd rather it just be to someone one-on-one, but this provides narrative depth (along with plenty of challenges). Regardless, I assume they forward a few things in the match and I suspect Jay White walks out with the belt. Christian v Wardlow: Christian really is great at the dark arts of wrestling. I've never been the biggest christian guy, but he continually over-delivers. I also think AEW found something by pairing Wardlow with Arn, so I think this should be a very good ladder match that lets both men build something together or separately off the back of it. Cole vs Jericho: I've actually really been into what they have done with this feud, especially bringing Strong in to liven the dynamic up a bit. I suspect this goes on first, because they will likely want to put a lot of space between this and AITA. I know people have strong feelings about both these guys and I am neither's greatest champion, but I think a short-ish plunder sprint could be just what they need here. Hardy's and Hook vs Page and The Guns: Pass... I want the heels to win so we can stop with this fucking stupid contract nonsense. Let Hook move onto something better. Let EVERYONE move onto something better. I suspect there will be the usual complaints about how the PPV is too long and bloated. I also suspect there will be complaints about too many gimmick matches. Both may indeed take away from some folks enjoyment (not mine), but there is a lot of potential on this card for great matches, hoots, fun angles, and maybe a surprise or two. Anyway, thought I'd see if anyone else was tuning in and/or had any thoughts about it.

I would bet this show is gonna be far better than everyone expects (as usual with AEW). I have a lot of hype for the battle royal and Anarchy in particular, even though I don't think there's a chance it can feel as special as the first one did.
Also, MJF is gonna close the show celebrating his victory so... Maybe Punk comes back now?
