Anybody watching the G1? Great start, but I feel like we've been spoiled by the last two years where they basically had a MOTYC on every show whereas most of the matches this year have been 'just' great.

Really excited to catch up on this. I have been too swamped to watch much wrestling over the last two weeks or so, but I am getting to catch up soon.

Tanahashi vs Okada has been my personal favourite, while Ospreay vs SANADA has been the biggest disappointment personally.

I agree that the last two shows having such great openers has kind of "spoiled" us. That being said, really good stuff so far. Okada-Tanahashi has probably been the best match while Taichi-Moxley has probably been my favorite.

KENTA/Tanahashi is my match of the tournament so far and quite possibly my overall MOTY. To be honest, I'm puzzled by how many people found it underwhelming, at least over at PWO. I don't know what people expected from the match that it didn't deliver. To make sure I wasn't gaslighting myself, I watched it back-to-back with Tanahashi/Shibata from the 2014 G1 and thought the KENTA match was clearly better. Other than that, my favorite match has probably been Ospreay/Archer. Most people may have been shocked that Archer was able to deliver at that level, but I knew what he was capable of based on his performance in the June 17 elimination tag I pimped at PWO. Seriously, you guys need to watch that match.

Ishii-Mox and Ibushi-Ospreay are probably my new picks for match of the tournament so far, but Okada-Tana is still right there as well.

I have only finished the first night. I actually preferred Ospreay/Archer to Tana/Okada. I thought Ospreay and Archer really put on a banger that ebbed and flowed nicely.
I'm hoping to catch up a bit today and tomorrow.

Ibushi and Jay White in the finals. Naito losing yet again is disappointing, but it may be time to go all-in on Ibushi. Still, considering these tournaments are booked in that the challenger and champion going in to WK are never in the same block and that they haven't done a title change between WK and the G1 since 2014, all signs point to Jay winning.

haha... I wasn't super pumped about Jay making the final against Ibushi, but honestly I didn't think Naito was having a great tournament and I wasn't really looking forward to Naito/Ibushi going again.
I am going to post my top 5-10 matches later and some broad strokes thoughts on the tournament, but I admittedly skipped the last show of A block so I didn't have to worry about spoilers anymore and I want to watch it before I do. This is the first - and probably last - time I have attempted to watch the entire thing and keep up. Its just too god damned much wrestling and started feeling like a chore to me. That said, I loved it on the whole and thought they did a great job building a lot up to move forward, even giving us maybe the hottest segment in all of wrestling with the Kenta/Shibata/Bullet Club thing in the finals.

My top 10 is probably:
1. Tanahashi-Ibushi 2. Okada-Ibushi 3. Ibushi-Jay 4. Ospreay-Tanahashi 5. Ishii-Shingo 6. Ishii-Moxley 7. Naito-Shingo 8. Ibushi-Ospreay 9. Naito-Moxley 10. Okada-Tanahashi
Tournament MVP was probably Ishii but Ibushi's peak performances were better I think.

Ohhh man.... criminally low on Ishii/Shingo! I did really love Tana/Ibushi. That was probably top 5 for me.

Really good tournament. Not on the level of the previous two years but a great one nonetheless. As for top 10, I'd go
1. Shingo-Ishii 2. Shingo-Naito 3. Ishii-Moxley 4. Okada-SANADA 5. Okada-Ospreay 6. Shingo-Goto 7. Okada-Ibushi 8. White-Ibushi 9. Okada-Tanahashi 10. Ibushi-Ospreay
MVP for me was actually Shingo, the man could not put on a bad performance and is honestly rivaling Ospreay as WOTY.

Kas over here putting some respec' on Shingo v Ishii. I totally agree Shingo being MVP. I think its close. I could see cases for number of guys, but he had the most consistent tournament and actually got better as it went.

This was the most competitive G1 I've seen in terms of MVP contenders. Like, Ishii is always there but this year you had Moxley, Takagi, Robinson, Yano, White, Archer and Ospreay doing great performances almost every time. And it's funny 'cause at the same time, the big four names (Naito, Okada, Ibushi, Tana) didn't have that show-to-show consistency.
