I think that might be the worst wrestling match I've ever seen.
The only way they could have saved it after the first 30 minutes would be if one of them started coughing and the other just left and took the count out loss.

That's the beauty of Shiozaki/Fujita. You'll think it's either absolute genius or completely unwatchable. It's like the wrestling version of Finnegans Wake or Trout Mask Replica.

I'm rolling with the theory that it was an intentional parody of the padded, main event epic. I mean, they ARE partners with DDT now.

The story as I understand it is that Fujita was testing Shiozaki's mental toughness by refusing to come out of his corner and trying to get Shiozaki to come to him. But Fujita ended up being the one who cracked first. There was additional symbolism in Shiozaki standing on top of the NOAH logo in the middle of the ring the entire time. Like most everyone else in this thread, I'm glad I watched it once and never want to see it again.

No one gets to complain about Lawler or Larry Zbyszko stalling at the beginning of a match or that "old school wrestling" is slow and boring ever again.

Bossrock, how much Devil Masami have you watched? I feel like as someone ranking the Pillars as the GOAT would really dig Masami's big matches. Specifically: vs Chigusa Nagayo 8/22/85 vs Shinobu Kandori 7/14/88 vs Bull Nakano 4/18/93
These all have a real mid-late 90s AJPW heavyweight feel in terms of length, psychology etc. I don't mean to dissuade you from watching Nakano matches. Do all of that. But I was curious what you thought about these matches.

I saw the Bull match a while back, thought it was good. Not sure if I've ever seen the other two. One match of hers that I did love, even if I felt she hung in the background a bit, was the GAEA tag with Ozaki against Nagayo and Kansai.

Hahaha... to be fair, this was a completely anomaly in current wrestling. I set up our air mattress in our living room this weekend. Its awesome, but if I left it up all the time I would like it. For some people (not me, obviously) this kinda thing is an air matress in the middle of the living room... or something.
I knew what was coming so I plaid a game of fifa while the first 30 minutes were going. I looked down as I played and that was enough to get the point.

Currently juggling dives on Bull, Fujinami, Hase, El Hijo del Santo, and Devil. The thing I love about Hase is that his style worked in both NJPW and AJPW perfectly. Like a hybrid of King's Road and the more technical aspects of 90's NJPW.

I'm trying to watch as much post 1990 Terry Funk as I can and in doing so I came across this video on youtube with the entire 9/21/91 "TWA Autumn Armageddon II" card. I know, who gives a shit, but when you take a closer look at the card its pretty damn interesting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT3SombGd1kLast Blood Battle Royal (Mr. Sandman, Crybaby Waldo, Ernesto Benefica, Ghetto Blaster, Glen Osbourne, Jimmy Jannetty, Johnny O, Michael Bruno, Mr. Anthony, Rick Perez, Rockin' Rebel, Sabu and Tony Stetson) J.T. Smith vs. D.C. Drake (TWA Heavyweight Title) Tony Stetson vs. Mr. Sandman The Blackhearts vs. DC Drake & Johnny Hot Body (TWA Tag Team Title) Owen Hart vs. Takayuki Iizuka Kevin Sullivan vs. Terry Funk Eddie Gilbert & Madusa Miceli vs. Cactus Jack & Luna Vachon Abdullah The Butcher vs. The Sheik (Cage Match) Sandman & Sabu in the "Last Blood Battle Royal." The future Gangrel is one of the Blackhearts. Jt Smith vs DC Drake is classic early 90s NE indy. Owen Hart vs Iizuka would have been a big deal at the time and I remember really liking it when I saw it in the late 90s. Sullivan vs Funk & the mixed tag are both a ton of fun. I have never seen Abby vs Sheik but am oddly intrigued based on the other 3 top matches being really good. Also "Jimmy Jannetty" is goddamn hilarious. But I've just now learned Marty had a daughter go into wrestling and her name is Jenny Jannetty. Fucking brilliant. Anyway. That indy card looks pretty fun top to bottom. I just watched Sullivan vs Funk for my Funk project, but I may go back and watch the whole thing.

I think that might be the worst wrestling match I've ever seen. And then Edge and Randy Orton found a way.

To reaffirm my love of Dick Togo, I stumbled upon this gem where he wrestles this guy who had only had 5 months experience on what appears to be a gym mat with no ropes. God bless Dick Togo. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqZE0Iwm1eg

I'm up to the end of March '86 on Will's Horsemen comp and Crockett really feels like the best booked promotion basically ever from like, the middle of 1985 up to the point I'm at (and they probably haven't even peaked for 1986 yet). The way they have Flair moving around from feud to feud while keeping everything hot without making you forget he has issue with those not the specific focal point at that specific time is so great. Part of that is him cutting the best promos of his life and maybe anybody's else's life every week, where he'll always remind you, even subtly, that even if he's focused on Dusty for the time being, he hasn't forgotten about Magnum TA or Ron Garvin. That the booking keeps THOSE guys relevant the whole time without ever making it feel like they're just killing time until getting back to Flair is also awesome. It never feels like they're losing steam, but it's never rushed.
And last night I got to the episode of World Championship Wrestling where Ricky Morton finally has enough of Flair's shit. Flair had been taking digs at the RnRs on interviews for weeks, calling them teeny boppers, talking about how he's the world champion and all about the REAL women while all the teenagers in their training bras go loopy the RnRs. He started out with subtle little jibes but they got progressively more obvious each week, and because the RnRs never responded or even acknowledged it it made Flair sound like an insecure prick. Then on the 3/29 episode the RnRs have a match with a couple of your ham n eggers. Flair had been out hyping the upcoming Crockett Cup and decides to stay out to do commentary on the match. All through it he bigs up the Arn/Tully team, says the Midnight Express with his good friend James Cornette are the best tag team in the world because they have the belts, and of course slips in a jab at Morton and Gibson because they DON'T have those belts. So after the match the RnRs are heading to the back, and Flair obviously can't help himself and calls them over. He pulls a bra out his pocket and says a REAL woman told him to pass it on to Ricky Morton, because Flair likes the woman who are this tall (raises his hand about his own height) and Morton like them this tall (drops his hand to like knee height, which sort of intimates that Morton is a nonce but I don't think that was necessarily the intention). He drops the bra on Morton's head and at this point you can tell Morton has no time for Flair and his bullshit. They have some words, Morton says Flair would be nothing without the people, Flair basically calls him a moron because Ric Flair would be Ric Flair wherever the hell he wants to be, so Morton casually takes off Flair's shades and steps on them. Flair is obviously apoplectic at this and it leads to a quick brawl where Morton humiliates him, which kicks off what's probably my favourite Flair feud ever.
So yeah, Crockett was good.

Watching some super random stuff tonight has led me to: Shinya Hashimoto & Naoya Ogawa vs Toshiaki Kawada & Keiji Muto Zero-1 7/6/03 Kawada does the KO spot after Naoya Ogawa slaps him while lying on his back. Kawada got KO'd by a guy lying down. I feel personally trolled by that one. Really good match otherwise. Hashimoto does a great job selling the leg to the point where I'm compelled to ask if he was really hurt? It makes Kawada's end of the match leg selling look like Edge. Super invested crowd. Some hot sequences and everyone works really hard. I will say the spot where Muto puts Ogawa in the figure 4 and Kawada mounts Ogawa and just throws bombs at him was an amazing spot. I'm actually really surprised this hasn't been nominated.
