Two of the three-four bigger stars in puroresu history. Same generation, same master, fathers of the two greatest companies, yet both were so different at their styles and ideology. I think this could be a fun comparison.

I admit that I am not the most versed in Inoki's work. Some of the top/hyped matches are on my rewatch list this year because it has been a long time since I dove into his work. That said, I have always been sort of low on him. It took me longer to "get" Baba and to really embrace his work, but once I did I really found a fondness for him and for what he brought to a match. I'll take baba for now and I'll revisit the question down the road.

Harder than its ever been. Inoki was more talented. Baba was more entertaining. I still lean Baba, but its closer than I would've said as recently as 2 years ago

I'd rather watch an Inoki trainwreck over a Giant Baba psychological masterpiece simply due to the fact Inoki might at any time flip a switch and stomp his opponents brains out. I'll also take Inokis match record over Babas any day of the week, mostly due to the fact Inoki knew how to make himself look like the baddest dude on the planet rather than just "better than you'd expect from a gangly giant". For the record I am also comically high on something like the Inoki/Singh matches.

Neither guy is blow away great imho, but their top matches are a joy. I'd probably choose Inoki.

All of them, if you are insane, but I am particular to 1/9/76 I guess.

Not super familiar with either guys' singles work, but Baba had much better matches with Hansen.

Not super familiar with either guys' singles work, but Baba had much better matches with Hansen. Haha. It's funny, I disagree. I prefer Hansen matches with Inoki from the early 80's than the ones with Baba. I also believe Inoki/Robinson from 1975 is greater than any of Robinson/Baba matches and I like some of them.
I vote Inoki. I actually think he's underrated. He had a lot of great matches in the NJPW 80's DVDVR Set and I love his 96 Vader match.

Somebody give me a hand full of Inoki matches to help me turn the corner on him. I was always low on him, but saw some multi-mans in the past year that I like him in a bit more than I generally expected. I also feel primed to like Inoki more right now for whatever reason. Shoot me a message or reply here with some recs (and links if you can).
Right now I have these on deck:
Inoki v Vader 12/27/87 Inoki v Vader 1/4/96 Inoki v Robinson 11/12/75 (I have this in two parts. If anyone has it in one video that would be awesome) Inoki v Brisco 8/5/71

Crazy fucking match that ends with....you know what...you should just watch that one.

I'd add the Choshu singles match in 1984 and the Fujinami series as contenders for his best singles stuff. Need to rewatch most of the multiman NJPW matches but I remember him being amazing at the climax of the 1984 Gauntlet.

vs Fujiwara 2/6/86 is another can't miss Inoki match vs Fujiwara 6/12/86 is also great but gets forgotten about because of that other match on that night vs Dick Murdoch 6/19/86
I don't remember the 2/89 match against Choshu, but it finished top 40 on the NJPW 80s set, so I'd probably give that a look too.
When I first watched the Hansen vs Inoki series I didn't like it and it was probably my least favorite Hansen rivalry. But when I watched all of their matches a second time there were several singles matches I thought were excellent, but I'm not sure which ones they were. So I guess I'd recommend the Hansen vs Inoki series, but watch all these other matches first to get more of a feel for Inoki at his best.
