This may be a weird comparison but WALTER feels a bit like Rey Mysterio in that he's got a distinctive formula down and has worked out how to fit just about anyone into it and get a 4 Star match, but this approach tends to cap at just below MOTYC territory.

I completely agree with that. No-one comes close to the consistency he's had these last 3/4 years, but his best stuff tends to cap off just below all-time great.

WALTER's big matches rarely live up to the hype for me - not saying they're bad or anything, but they're often touted as MOTYC when I think they're 'just' great. This and the Devlin OTT match however live up to the hype. I agree. Those are probably my two favorites. I also think the Darby match is sort of singular and unique, so it probably ranks as my 3. I love the "big Walter match" in general and think he is absolutely fantastic. I currently rank quite a few of his big run pretty high but I do suspect there will be matches that fall off a bit and matches that stand the test of time.

For my ratings - and I am a touch more generous with the stars than some - I have a lot of 4.5 and 4.75 star matches for him, but I don't have anything as or fight now that is in the 5 star range.

532-T. Meiko Satomura vs Shinobu Kandori (LLPW - 2/25/2007) Total Points: 13 High Vote (88): Jetlag
516-T. Jaguar Yokota vs La Galactica (AJW 2/27/1985) Total Points: 16 High Vote (85): Elliott
These two caught my eye when putting things together and I have them on my watch list for this weekend. Not sure how I haven't hunted a Kandori v Satomura match out, but there is always more to watch.

Glad to see Jet voted for Murakami vs Ishikawa. Long time favorite that slipped through the cracks for me. Made my list last year, should've made it this year. Dunno how that happened, but im thrilled it still pulled a vote. Fantastic match. Murakami was amazing at this time.

452-T. AJ Styles vs Paul London (ROH - 6/14/2003)Total Points: 31 High Vote (70): Kas
Awesome. I love this match. London was so great in the early to mid 2000s.
I have already been coming around on more 2000s indie matches as real contenders, esp some of the best from ROH. It is a bit of a jump, but I wonder if there will be surge of appreciation for the era more broadly and/or if it will do better on future ballots. It is completely based on feel and not actually looking at the lists, but it feels like I have seen more talk about the era and seen more love on this ballot.

I'm really surprised that the Dream Slam 2 tag only got 1 vote, I thought that and Dream Rush were universally loved. And yeah, I am generally seeing more talk about that period of RoH, I think people are more willing to do deep dives on eras that have already passed by and ended than ones that are more recent, so I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing more 00s indies matches crop up in these ballots.

Final Conflict getting only 1 vote is a tragedy

Yeah, I can't say shit because I wound up leaving it off (haven't watched it in forever and remembered basically nothing about it), but Final Conflict finishing in the four hundreds is something I'd have thought impossible ten/fifteen years ago.

Surprised that I was the only one who voted for Londos vs Nagurski.
