Dunno if anyone else is interested in the WON HOF, but figured we may as well have a thread. It has its problems for sure, but it is the closest thing to a legit Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame. So as someone interested in history, I'll probably always care about the WON HOF more than I should.
The results for this years class come out in a couple of days and Dave said there will be ten new inductions, the most since the first year when he just put everyone in. I really want Sputnik Monroe, Bearcat Wright and a host of luchadores to make it. I think those two and the top lucha candidates (Villano III, Misionarios, Lagarde) are the strongest candidates, but I really think its going to be modern wrestler heavy. Omega, Naito, Ibushi, Ishii, Edge, Sugabayashi, Akiyama and Stephanie. Sputnik & Bearcat had the most support among historical canidates last year so I've got to believe that have a good chance. I think Wagner Jr makes it.
With the weak modern US field, JYD is someone I'm keeping an eye on. He made a big jump from 31%-48% last year and hopefully that trend will continue and put him above 50%. I think he's one of the best candidates not already in and it'll be awesome if he made it in spite of Dave's coverage of him.
Punk is another candidate to keep an eye on. I think among modern candidates he's much more interesting than someone like Edge, but he gets little support and it took a big hit last year pulling only 35 votes down from 77 the previous year. Again with a super weak modern US ballot, it'll be interesting to see if/when the backlash starts to wear off.
Tully & Arn "With JJ" remains totally confusing to me. Are we to discount their careers outside of their roughly 3 years as a team? Since it is specifically "With JJ Dillon" are we to discount their WWF run, effectively cutting their time teaming together in half? I think they're weaker candidates as a group than any one of them would be on their own. They actually get moderate support (45 & 43% in their 2 yrs on the ballot) so I kinda worry that they will get in eventually. If they do, to me, that should open the floodgates to people like JYD, Goldberg, Slaughter, Kerry, Ultimate Warrior, pick literally anyone criticized for having "too short of a run." Seems like the Hardy's should be a slam dunk if Arn & Tully are pulling support in the mid 40s.
Trish Stratus got more support last year than Kerry, Ultimate Warrior, and CM Punk and 4 total fewer votes than Volk Han and her support overall went up from 13-20%. Which I would have never believed in a million years unless I saw it with my own eyes. You could probably actually fabricate an argument for Trish based on influence, TV ratings, being the ace/defining wrestler of her division/era and a super worker.
