I felt like the match had a real shot this year. It’s not my battle to get it to #1 though. My battle was getting the December match in the Top 100. It’s a better match.

I don't think the December match is better but I'm thrilled we got it in the top 100 because it definitely belongs.
Next up is Hokuto/Kong vs Kandori/Sawai. That has to be in the top 100 next time around. The best Aja performance I've ever seen.

I’m sure I’ve seen it but it’s been some time. I’ll pencil that one in to watch.

I couldn't believe how good it was when we just rewatched it for Grimmas' Joshi Watch Parties. Just something that totally fell through the cracks over the years. I'm excited to see Cap's reaction because its just Aja/Kandori magic.

With the exception of Flair-Steamboat sliding out and Hansen-Andre sliding in, I think these are the exact same matches that finished in the top 10 the first time around.

I want to be completely out of the calculations one year so I can be surprised by the rollout.
28. Shinobu Kandori/Akira Hokuto vs Bull Nakano/Aja Kong (AJPW – 3/27/1994) Total Points: 691 # of Ballots: 9 High Vote: Kadaveri - 1 2020 Finish: 22
A little surprised this slid overall. It dropped a few places for me (probably a few too many), but on the whole I didn’t expect it to slide much on the overall list given how well Joshi has been performing overall. Anyway, this deserves a perpetual spot spot in the top 30.
26. Atlantis vs Vilano III (Mask vs Mask – CMLL – 3/17/2000) Total Points: 710 # of Ballots: 11 High Vote: Grimmas - 2 2020 Finish: 34
A rare lucha climber, but one that deserves it. This is such a wonderful bloody brawl. Top 30 also feels very appropriate for this.
24. Kiyoshi Tamura vs Tsuyoshi Kohsaka (RINGS – 6/27/1998) Total Points: 729 # of Ballots: 9 High Vote: Control21 - 2 2020 Finish: 15
Also a little surprised by the slip of this match. This is pretty easily one of the best shoot style matches and feels like a match that transcends the style.
23. Ric Flair vs Terry Funk (NWA Title – NWA – 7/23/1989) Total Points: 748 # of Ballots:11 High Vote: Bossrock - 7 2020 Finish: 20
I’m in the middle of The Way of The Blade podcast on this match and it is really good. Good discussions of matches and context and really richen my appreciation of a match. Worth checking out to get that in podcast form.
21. Sangre Chicana vs MS-1 (Hair vs Hair – EMLL – 9/23/1983) Total Points: 761 # of Ballots: 12 High Vote: Cap - 2 2020 Finish: 10
Crushed that this fell out of the top 10. Being called the 21st greatest match ever is no insult, but this one belongs among that tippy top tier to me.
20. Stan Hansen/Terry Gordy vs Genichiro Tenryu/Toshiaki Kawada (AJ Tag Titles – Real World Tag Finals – AJPW – 12/16/1988) Total Points: 778 # of Ballots: 12 High Vote: Superstar Sleeze - 10 2020 Finish: 12
I have this at 40 and that feels insanely low to me in hindsight. This will finish higher for me next year I think.
18. Katsuyori Shibata vs Kazuchika Okada (IWGP HW Title – NJPW – 4/9/2017) Total Points: 795 # of Ballots: 10 High Vote: Tetsujin - 3 2020 Finish: 19
I actually expected this to climb a little more this year, but one more spot ain’t bad. I suspect it will climb more in the future.
16. Tully Blanchard vs Magnum TA (Cage Match – US Title – JCP – 11/28/1985) Total Points: 804 # of Ballots: 12 High Vote: JK Webb - 1 2020 Finish: 31
Really happy to see this one land in the top 20. I also love that it got a #1 vote.
11. Nick Bockwinkel vs Curt Hennig (AWA Title – AWA – 11/21/1986) Total Points: 914 # of Ballots: 11 High Vote: Tetsujin - 2 2020 Finish: 23
Awesome finish for this broadway. Wonderful stuff. Would have been cool to see it crack the top 10 and mix things up a bit at the very top.

Yeah, I was surprised by the Kohsaka vs Tamura slip as well...I'm going to push for that hard next time. Should be much higher.

I've been out the country the last few days drinking as many beers as I can manage before falling over so let's see what I've come back to!
50. Mitsuharu Misawa and Kenta Kobashi vs. Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue (AJPW - 5/21/1994)
Total Points: 475
# of Ballots: 8
High Vote: andyLFC - 13
2020 Finish: 85
It has been a very long time, I must admit. I reckon I’d still think it’s good.
49. Stan Hansen vs Carlos Colon (Texas Bullrope Match – CWP – 1/6/1987)
Total Points: 480.
# of Ballots: 10
High Vote: Bossrock - 28
2020 Finish: 53
A ridiculously great match and arguably the high point of a ridiculously great feud. One of the three best matches ever involving a rope/strap/chain/collar/whatever?
47-T. Dangerous Alliance vs. Sting's Squadron (War Games - WCW - 5/17/1992)
Total Points: 488
# of Ballots: 7
High Vote: Tim Livingston - 4
2020 Finish: 101
Basically the perfect blow-off.
47-T. CM Punk vs John Cena (WWE World Title - WWE - 7/17/2011)
Total Points: 488
# of Ballots: 8
High Vote: EnviousStupid, Kadavari - 16
2020 Finish: 82
Honestly, this didn’t do a whole lot for me when I last watched it. Watching it live I thought it was great. Maybe I’ll revisit it again someday.
46. Negro Casas vs El Hijo del Santo (Hair vs Mask – CMLL – 9/19/1997)
Total Points: 491
# of Ballots: 8
High Vote: Gramsci - 5
2020 Finish: 41
Maybe the best match-up in wrestling history, and the best iteration of it. I need to watch this again but I get the sense it’ll be a top 10 contender.
45. Akira Hokuto vs Meiko Satomura (GAEA - 4/29/2001)
Total Points: 492
# of Ballots: 8
High Vote: Grimmas - 6
2020 Finish: 313
Never seen this. I guess I’ll try and get to it before I’m 60.
44. Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Genichiro Tenryu & Stan Hansen (AJPW - 12/6/1989)
Total Points: 493
# of Ballots: 7
High Vote: Bossrock - 18
2020 Finish: 64
Been about 10 years since I last saw this. But it was top 10 on my All Japan 80s ballot so I can only conclude I liked it a lot!
43. John Cena vs Umaga (Last Man Standing – WWE World Title – WWE – 1/28/2007)
Total Points: 496
# of Ballots: 8
High Vote: Grimmas - 18
2020 Finish: 51
One of the best gimmick matches in WWE history and Cena’s greatest performance.
42. Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada & Kenta Kobashi vs. Jumbo Tsuruta, Masa Fuchi & Akira Taue (AJPW - 4/20/1991)
Total Points: 502
# of Ballots: 8
High Vote: Bossrock - 5
2020 Finish: 26
Long. But I thought it was outstanding on last watch. But very long.
41. Jerry Lawler vs Bill Dundee (Loser Leaves Town – Southern Heavyweight Title – CWA – 6/6/1983)
Total Points: 509
# of Ballots: 7
High Vote: JKWebb - 8
2020 Finish: 84
Another potential GOAT match-up. I prefer the ’85 match but I won’t spend time arguing with those who think this is the top 10 match in the history of wrestling.
40. Bryan Danielson vs Nigel McGuinness (ROH Title vs ROH Pure Title – ROH – 8/12/2006)
Total Points: 517
# of Ballots: 7
High Vote: Cactus - 11
2020 Finish: 39
I can’t see myself ever watching this again. Was never my favourite match of theirs anyway.
39. Megumi Kudo vs Combat Toyoda (No Rope Exploding Barb Wire Death Match – FMW Independent Womens Title/ WWA Title – FMW – 5/5/1996)
Total Points: 522
# of Ballots: 9
High Vote: Kas - 9
2020 Finish: 36
Probably the best deathmatch ever. Should watch again.
38. Manami Toyota/Toshiyo Yamada vs Mayumi Ozaki/Dynamite Kansai (WWWA Tag Team Titles - AJW - 11/26/1992)
Total Points: 532
# of Ballots: 8
High Vote: Tim Livingston - 8
2020 Finish: 63
Watched this last year and thought it was shockingly enjoyable. This sort of thing isn’t really for me, but I understand why it gets talked about as an all-timer and I liked it for what it was.
37. Devil Masami vs Chigusa Nagayo (WWWA All Pacific Title – AJW – 8/22/1985)
Total Points: 581
# of Ballots: 9
High Vote: Cap - 3
2020 Finish: 73
I should watch this again. It’s been forever.
36. Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat (NWA World Heavyweight Title - WCW - 2/20/1989)
Total Points: 617
# of Ballots: 10
High Vote: Tim Livingston - 12
2020 Finish: 29
This is the only one of their ’89 matches that I’ve watched in the last decade. It’s great and I sort of think it would be my favourite if I ever bothered my arse to watch all the matches again.
35. Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Minoru Suzuki (IWGP Heavyweight Title - NJPW - 10/8/2012)
Total Points: 633
# of Ballots: 11
High Vote: Control21 - 10
2020 Finish: 70
I’m pretty sure I meant to watch this and just…didn’t. Probably someday.
34. Jumbo Tsuruta and Genichiro Tenryu vs Riki Choshu and Yoshiaki Yatsu (NWA International Tag Titles - AJPW – 1/28/1986)
Total Points: 648
# of Ballots: 12
High Vote: - EnviousStupid - 4
2020 Finish: 30
Best All Japan tag ever.
33. Sgt. Slaughter vs Iron Sheik (Bootcamp Match – WWF – 6/16/1984)
Total Points: 652
# of Ballots: 12
High Vote: Grimmas - 13
2020 Finish: 44
Amazing brawl. I should rewatch this too.
32. Ricky Steamboat vs Ric Flair (NWA World Heavyweight Title - NWA - 5/7/1989)
Total Points: 656
# of Ballots: 11
High Vote: EnviousStupid - 3
2020 Finish: 76
I didn’t love this when I watched it about ten years ago. Probably due a rewatch, I guess.
31. Eddy Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. (Mask vs. Title - Cruiserweight Title - 10/27/1997)
Total Points: 657
# of Ballots: 11
High Vote: Mattsdmf - 12
2020 Finish: 17
An amazing match, maybe the best in WCW history (at least from the point Turner took over).

I've never seen the Satomura or Masami matches. Those are huge finishes, guess I should check them out. Ok I watched Chigusa/Masami. Blown away, what a wonderful match that is.
