I actually thought the ring bell spot was set up pretty well. Bret initially goes for it because it was the most conveniently available ringside object, but then he decides a chair would be better because he wants to Pillmanize the leg he'd been working over. It was perhaps a bit too clever a spot for a no-holds-barred grudge match, but the way it furthered the characterization of Bret as a calculating sadist more than made up for it. I also had no issues with Austin's selling. On the contrary, I thought he did a fantastic job of gradually regaining use of his leg only to be back at square one when Bret would go back after it. I was also impressed by how he shifted from exaggerated theatrical heel selling to more sympathetic babyface selling as the match progressed. By the way, I've never made a conscious effort to limit the number of matches I rate above a certain level, but I've consistently had 50-60 matches in the ****3/4-***** range whenever I've put together a top 100 list.

I’m curious about how people who have made lists before are going about rewatching. Are you watching all or most of what you listed in 2021? Are you going about things in a particular sequence?
I think it is time for me to start and am thinking about how I want to approach it. I am still in the mode of checking out nominees that I haven’t seen or I am curious about and other matches that I am curious about in general.
If you are not planning on doing much rewatching I’d be curious to hear how you are making adjustments as well.

I'm not rewatching what I listed in 2021. Not for the project anyway, of course I'll rewatch some of that stuff just because I feel like it, but doing all or even most of the list is just too much time and I'd rather spend it watching new stuff. But also I don't remake by ballot each time. I just have an ever evolving Top 100 that every time I watch something new that I think belongs I'll just stick it in there and move everything else down, so gradually matches that made previous ballots are dropping into the #101 - #200 section. That's where most of the movement comes from.

I am always pretty haphazard with this. I do my evolving list in the way kad does.
I did some rewatching on Sunday and Just pulled my list and turned on matches that I either hadn't seen for a bit, thought might be a bit low or high, and/or just struck me as fun to watch in the moment.
Last year I did my top 25-30 in countdown order right before submitting. I may try to do something like that again, not sure. It winds up being a grind.
I do know there are probably 10 matches that are on the fringe (about 5 that are in and 5 that I have either recently cut or thought about adding before) that I really want to watch in the not too distant future. Other than that, I'll likely focus a bit more of my free wrestling time watching for some hyped or recommended things and doing my random pull up my list and go nuts thing.

There is a not 0% chance that there are 5 matches on my list that happened since we turned in the last ballot, which is counter to my approach to this project previously.
Anyone else got not just new matches on their list, but new matches that actually happened since we submitted the last ballot?

I had Anarchy in The Arena penciled in at #2
I have at least 2 more that will make it.

Planning to vote for at least one FTR-Briscoes match (1 or 3, outside chance of both).
Anarchy may sneak a spot for me too.

MJF/Bryan might be the only one who makes it for me. The best match I've seen in current wrestling since Tanahashi/White from Wrestling Dontaku 2021.

I have Hangman/Danielson 2 and Owens/Zayn vs. Usos penciled in for my ballot, and at least one of them will be in my top 50. The past couple of years have been quite the breath of fresh air after the 2017-2020 period was mostly a black hole for me. There are still plenty of trends and tendencies I don't care for, but the really high-end stuff is about as good as it gets.

Right now, Jericho vs. Kingston has the best shot for me. Possibly Danielson vs. MJF as well pending a rewatch.

There is a good possibility that all of the following make my list:
Zayn/Owens v Usos Dragon v MJF Briscoes v FTR 3 Anarchy in the Arena Dragon v Page

I see FTR vs Briscoes 3 as my MOTY of 2022 so the match will be on my list

I decided to make a list of all the matches we’ve voted for #1 overall since that’s the match we’re declaring the greatest. I find the placement of Flair/Morton fascinating as Marty voted it #1 and it was 134 overall then I voted for it (and he switched to 6/9/95) and it was 29 overall and this year I will have changed my number 1.
I’m hoping Hokuto/Kandori is able to sneak into the #1 spot this year.
2021:
1. Dump Matsumoto v. Yukari Ohmori (#84) Elliott
2. Eddie Guerrero v. JBL (#57) - EnviousStupid 3. Ric Flair v. Ricky Morton (#29) - Darren 4. Kandori/Hokuto v. Bull/Aja (#28) - Kadaveri 5. Hiroshi Tanahashi v. Kazuchika Okada 4/7/2013 (#27) Kas 6. Not sure if this has already been decided or not, but since I’m nowhere ready to submit a ballot I can rightfully stand by, Id love to still be involved somehow. That said I’d love to do the vote tallies and rollout if the job is still open.

That said I’d love to do the vote tallies and rollout if the job is still open. I’m unsure if Cap is still in charge of that or not. Hit him up Iif he doesn’t see this. I still hope to get a larger pool of ballots this year. My first one wasn’t great but I had fun putting it together. I’d suggest doing a rough draft and seeing what it looks like. This project is always a work in progress. That’s half the fun.
