Also a reminder to new members if you’re nominating a match and not giving an in-depth case for the match it’s unlikely to get nominated. A short review of why you like something is helpful in getting a 2nd & 3rd
But also remember if you write enough about the match it gets fast tracked to nomination
No match will be excluded (except for missing footage) but if you don’t make the case then it can’t be voted on.
The purpose of the project is the discussion and if it’s a match you want to nominate, then I hope you’re passionate about it and we’d all like to hear.

Usually the ballot is available a couple weeks before the deadline. I'm not heading it up this year, but there is admin discussion, so I imagine it will be up sometime in early to mid June, but just keep an eye out.
In the meantime, I know from experience it will help out the admins who work on it this year if everyone double checks that all their matches are nominated officially and to make sure that your list is in the format that we have in the match index. I'm not sure what the format of the ballot will look like this year, but chances are those step will help expedite your entry process and the tabulation process.

SO, I was rewatching the 86 Santo vs Espanto match and it really reminded me how much presentation matters in my enjoyment of a match. The commentary (or lack), the look of the arena, the camerawork, the editing, all that kind of stuff. To me something like Chigusa vs Dump isn't as effective if we don't get the reaction shots of the fans. Royal Rumble 92 isn't as great without Heenan losing it on commentary. Onita vs Funk just wouldn't be the same without that post-explosion electric guitar solo. What are other folk's thoughts on this?

Which is why I always hate when people will say caveats like “this wouldn’t be as great without ____” and to me that’s so irrelevant because the fact that it’s there is one of the reasons that it is great. Bad commentary and exterior factors can also hurt an otherwise great match. These little things are as much a part of a match as anything. A great song isn’t just the lyrics and the music. The entire recording process as a whole shapes a song into something that even when played live loses that. Because the piece of art is that whole piece. The live track is just a recreation of that magic.

Hey lads.
I haven't been active here much (or on many other boards outside of the odd project that I've done on PWO), but I will try and submit a ballot. I won't be doing a massive rewatching project nor will I do any extensive watching of nominees that I have yet to see, but I revist some old favourites that I think will have a good chance of making the list.
I'm thinking of mixing up my ballot making process this year. My previous two ballots had simply been my *****/****3/4 list organized into a top 100 ballot. This year I might put more emphasis on matches that make me feel something and not simply 100 matches that I think are objectively some of the best ever. For example, Kobashi's 2007 return match shakes me to my very core and creates the emotion that made me fan and that has kept me watching this crazy artform for nearly 25 years, even though Kobashi has had 'better' matches than that from a sheer workrate perspective.
I think that's the whole purpose of professional wrestling. That's the main reason why CM Punk, Terry Funk and Eddie Kingston are of my all-time favourites as they can make you feel something and not question how ridiculous all this shit really is.

Nice to see you here Cactus, I am happy to hear that you are planning on submitting a list.
I think your ideas make perfect sense; there’s space for all kinds of matches and anything that provides that “lost in the moment” feeling is worthy of consideration for sure.

I am definitely doing the same. I don’t feel like it should be mechanical plug in thing. I am proud of my new list that’s all about the feels.

Coincidentally, I actually rewatched that match a few days ago it was also an experience. I was crying like a baby by the end and still got a bit emotional while thinking about it the next day. I also struggled with how to rate it, but after giving it some thought I could only conclude that it actually was a top tier match. Even if there are matches with more impressive work and much of it is coasting off the real life story of Kobashi the person coming back from a brush with death to be Kobashi the wrestler again, the match is still masterful for how it blends in that narrative to create a moment in time that blurs the line between fiction and reality. Take that exact narrative and imagine that's the backstory to Giant Baba vs. Bulldog Bob Brown and it just doesn't work, lol.

Yeah, my list has been moving more in that direction. There are still some matches that I have that I just think are top shelf expressions of pro wrestling, even if they don't punch me in the feels like some other do, but I've noticed a bit more of a shift in my list over the years towards a resonance with me rather than a mental checklist of things I want to see. I can't tell if its an actual shift for me or just me giving up completely on trying to explain why I like shit beyond "this fucking rules". Either way, whatever it is, it winds up corresponding with my star ratings pretty well because I just make my stars line up with the list. If something belongs on the list then it gets five stars from me.
