The approach Cactus is taking (and one many people seem to agree on) is interesting and a commendable one because I don't think I could ever manage it. The whole process would fall apart if I tried to base quality on ephemeral emotional impact or the "feels" as Darren puts it.
That's why, in contrast, this year I tried to be as mechanical and analytical as possible in my assessments (while still being constrained by the obviously subjective experiences and interpretations). This includes judging the product as a whole, seeing how well all elements link up, looking for any aberrations etc.
Still, like mentioned, there is a ton of overlap in these departments (if you thought something was great, it probably induced some type of reaction and vice versa) so it's not a huge distinction.

I appreciate your analytical approach, Micro. Really looking forward to how your list turns out.

There's many ways to approach this kind of project.

I was just thinking through what I'd like to watch and re-watch before the deadline this year and yikes... I really wish I was getting more time to dive into my list before submitting. I feel much more scattered and uneven in my approach to tweaking and finalizing this year. I suppose life happens. I have one "new to me" match that I am going to make sure to get to and then I think I'm going to just be spending any re-watch time I have looking through my list, recent cuts, and things that are just on the outside looking in and then cherry picking to tweak things. I also hope to do an anotated list to post after the fact, and that always takes so much longer than I think it will.
Where is everyone else at down the home stretch? You done? You got more work to do? You feeling good about your list? You got the correct #1 ?

I finalized my list last night.
One thing that I tried to do was create a natural flow to it, sort of like a great album. So there will be stylistic similarities bunched together. This was a fair approach, IMO.
Anyway, I'm pleased with the end result and thankful to everyone involved in this project for helping me find new wrestling to enjoy.

Will be my first time submitting a list. I have one drafted and I think the top ~80 or so are locked in for now, but there are probably 50+ matches I want to cram into the last 20 spots and there will be an element of whimsy in which ones I settle on from that group.

I change my list daily. Currently 115 matches and 70% different from the one I posted confidently last month.

Pretty set on the matches, unsure about the order of my top 20.

I did a massive rewatch of 350 matches months ago that ended last January and then I got burned out, so I don't know what to do and I think my current list is a mess.
I don't know how to approach matches that are happening right now in 2023 or that have happened in the past few years, in terms of recency bias. So I don't know where to put matches in the list that I love like Punk/Eddie, Hangman/Bryan, MJF/Bryan or Mox/Barnett, and I may have positioned them below historical matches that I may not like as much.
The only thing I'm sure of is that my top 3 will look like this:
Akira Hokuto vs. Shinobu Kandori (AJW, 4/2/1993) Mitsuharu Misawa/Kenta Kobashi vs. Toshiaki Kawada/Akira Taue (AJPW, 6/9/1995) Atlantis vs. Villano III (CMLL, 3/17/2000)

I am hovering right around where lemming is, about 3/4 settled on what I am including with the last quarter up for grabs.
And I am where Cap is as far as being behind on rewatching, so the order of my list is very much up for grabs. I have been more interested in watching some of the stuff y’all are listing which has been fun and given me some new entries.
I admire how far along many of you are, I am def not gonna be settled til 6/30

So I got my smile back! Made some significant life changes since we last did this in November 2021. Got a girlfriend, moved in with her. That has definitely impacted my ability to watch wrestling, BUT if I am being honest, I was so burnt out. I was forcing myself to watch wrestling and honestly I felt like the quality of my reviews in 2021 was dogshit. I continued to watch week to week WWE/AEW product, but I stopped watching older wrestling. I dont know what happened but in the middle of May, I just really wanted to watch some Japanese wrestling. I settled on Inokiist Japan c.2001-2006. It is perfect because the vast majority of matches are sub-20 minutes so I can watch them on my lunch breaks/walks. Also it is a style I prefer, there is less running and less overselling. I feel like my reviews have improved to the point where I feel like I have either gotten back to my old level or perhaps even exceeded it. Inokiist New Japan is not renowned for its match quality, but it is nowhere as bad as the haters make it out to be, but I havent seen anything that will affect my list. I will review my 2021 list and make some tweaks between now June 30th. I will also comb through the Nominated Matches section and copy & past my reviews from PWO to here so as to contribute to the discussion.
