One thing to remember about Wargames 87 is that there had not been a Wargames yet. No one knew what it was going to look like. It's going to take me a long time to do the write up it deserves but I'll do it soon.
I'm happy 6 Joshi matches made it which is more than I expected. The bigger win was how well they did with 5 in the top 53.
The "other" Hansen/Kobashi was for real like 102 on my last rough draft. That and Eddy/JBL were both really strong contenders for my list. I would strongly recommend the 9/91 Hansen/Kobashi as the "other other" singles match they had near this same quality. They had chemistry together as good as any two wrestlers ever. Literally all of their matches together are at least very good. But 9/4/91, 4/16/93 & 7/29/93 are all classic all time great matches.

I'm also surprised that park/santo or park/wagner didn't make it.
Joeg, I want to see your top 20 funk matches! That'll be a cool list!

Hopefully, as time goes by the top 10 becomes a lot less predictable, but it's not like this isn't a worthy top ten. Either way, I've had a blast with this project, I've watched so many new matches and have had some great discussions, thank you all and I look forward to doing it again next year.

I kinda completely forgot about the 91 Hanson/Kobashi match when doing this. I'll have to give that a watch soon.
I am not going to lie. I love Park. I love Santo. They are both guys I would seriously consider for #1 if I did a GWE list. I don't love that match as much as some. I think it is great, but even on rewatch, I never really considered it for my list. I think my issue is I can get really annoyed with screwy lucha finishes sometimes and a lot of good Park stuff (including this one) features those finishes. I don't want to feel that way. I genuinely want to love that match because it is everything - on paper - I love in wrestling. Park even wears all white for the visual with the blood... but ultimately it always deflates me.

I had kinda forgotten about that particular Hansen/kobashi match but rewatched it for the project and was blown the fuck away. If that series of matches took place anywhere other than AJ, it would be discussed in terms of Flair/Steamboat, Tamura/Han, Santo/Casas or whatever trio of holy shit level matches you want to pick. Considering you've got the two from 93 at 9 & 5, watch this other one!

As much as I wish a Hansen-Colon match had made the top 100 or that the Queendom tag had finished higher, I think overall this is a really good list. Even if the top 10 is rather AJPW-dominated, I feel like the top 100 as a whole manages to cover a little bit of everything. I'm trying to watch or re-watch matches that made the cut that I didn't vote for and I can already say Lawler-Dundee, Rockers-Somers/Rose, and Tamura-Yamamoto are extremely worthy contenders.

All in all, this was a ton of fun and I can't wait for next year's list!

Objectively speaking, a great list. It has a little of everything. 90s AJPW and US territory stuff obviously but also 80s AJPW, 80s NJPW Multis and 90s Juniors, 2010s highly pimped NJPW, 2000s US and NOAH, 90s and 2010s WWE. Plus a healthy amount of shoot-style and joshi, decent amount of lucha and some pre-80s stuff. No Hashimoto and European stuff might be a criticism and maybe a little too much All Japan.

Tons of fun with this list. Very, very strong top 100, from top to bottom. Next year I'll try to send my own list because I need todo see more Kurt Angle, Nick Bockwinkel, Buddy Rose and Rick Martel love. Also, lucha in the top 10 needs to happen. 90s AJPW is the peak of pro wrestling workrate for me, so I'm happy with the top 10 even if it wasn't as diverse as If wanted. One thing to remember about Wargames 87 is that there had not been a Wargames yet. No one knew what it was going to look like. It's going to take me a long time to do the write up it deserves but I'll do it soon. I'm happy 6 Joshi matches made it which is more than I expected. I am just going to rewatch every Hansen/Kobashi match I can get my hands on. They are going to have 6 of my top 10 next year.

I'm glad the '91 match was brought up. Probably a top 110-115 contender but could easily find its way on my ballot next year.

No worries, Sleaze. It's a moot point now, so let's bury the hatchet and move on.
I'll try to offer my overall thoughts later, but the second-best Hansen/Kobashi match is their 1996 Triple Crown match. It's also Hansen's last great singles match. In fact, it may be his last singles match to make tape period.

I just downloaded 5 Hansen v Kobashi matches that I either haven't seen in so long I more or less forget them or I have never seen (there are honestly 2-3 I can't remember if I have seen or not). I mentioned it on my list, they really do represent my favorite pairing in wrestling probably, born for each other. I am feeling a weird anxiety about not having considered these matches now haha.
Once I get grades submitted this semester I am going to sit down with that whole feud and my life will be enriched for it.
