Bret/Austin dethroning 6/9/95 after everyone had been banking on Hokuto/Kandori would have been one hell of a swerve.

Wow, super close! A single ballot change could have swapped the position of any of the top 3.

5. Stan Hansen vs Andre the Giant (NJPW - 9/23/1981)Total Points: 1472 # of Ballots: 24 High Vote: mvz & el_wreino - 5 2021 Finish: 8 (+3)
No.
4. Kenta Kobashi vs Mitsuharu Misawa (AJPW - 1/20/1997) Total Points: 1811 # of Ballots: 21 High Vote: Puropotsy - 1 2021 Finish: 3 (-1)
My #13. I'm back in the camp of people who considers 6/9/1995 and this match the crowning achievements of 90s AJPW.
3. Akira Hokuto vs Shinobu Kandori (AJW - 4/2/1993) Total Points: 2072 # of Ballots: 23 High Vote: madwizzzard, mrjmml, silverwidow, mvz, Gramsci, Grimmas & Cap - 1 2021 Finish: 4 (+1)
My #10. This is pretty consistent: it fails to take the #1 spot but never falls out of the Top 4. The most #1 votes is a win though.
2. Bret Hart vs Steve Austin (Submission Match - WWF - 3/23/1997) Total Points: 2119 # of Ballots: 24 High Vote: Mattsdmf - 1 2021 Finish: 2 (No Change)
My #56 so I'm definitely a fan but this never struck me as a US GOAT contender like a few other WWE matches do.
1. Holy Demon Army vs Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa (AJPW - 6/9/1995) Total Points: 2152 # of Ballots: 24 High Vote: Microstatistics, Cactus, andylfc, Lemming & NintendoLogic - 1 2021 Finish: 1 (No Change)
My #1. So this did win but man did Bret/Austin come close or what. The fact that this didn't run away with the top spot, unlike 2021, correlates with the (slight) downturn in performance of the 90s AJ heavy hitters. Still, at the end of the day, #1 is #1.

Wow, super close! A single ballot change could have swapped the position of any of the top 3. That was me, sorry. I didn't vote for WM 13 this time.

5. Stan Hansen vs Andre the Giant (NJPW - 9/23/1981)
There are few matches I've watched as often as this one. A riot right from the get go. Appearing on 24 ballots out of 29 underlines its broad appeal: if you're a fan of pro wrestling of course you'll love this.*
*Apart from Micro, apparently!
4. Kenta Kobashi vs Mitsuharu Misawa (AJPW - 1/20/1997)
Big jump in points to the top 4, so we're into the upper echelon. This was my #3 so no complaints from me. Best title match ever.
3. Akira Hokuto vs Shinobu Kandori (AJW - 4/2/1993)
Seven #1 votes! Again, no complaints. This is kinda exhausting to watch, but in a good way, like you've come to the end of a rollercoaster ride and realise you've been holding your breath the whole time and you need to catch some air.
2. Bret Hart vs Steve Austin (Submission Match - WWF - 3/23/1997)
It seems I was in a small minority in not voting for this, but it's still a match I've seen a bunch of times and really enjoy, just doesn't hit me quite as hard as other great matches. Memorable, visceral, worthy of its classic status.
1. Holy Demon Army vs Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa (AJPW - 6/9/1995)
#1 was honestly the easiest slot on my ballot for me to pick. I've never watched this and come away thinking it was anything other than the best match I've seen.

Should be #1.....

Maybe the real greatest matches of all time are the friends we made along the way.

I suggest we get rid of the nominating process, my numbers 2 & 5 didn’t make the list at all cause they weren’t nominated. Not everyone who votes uses PWO.

I suggest we get rid of the nominating process, my numbers 2 & 5 didn’t make the list at all cause they weren’t nominated. Not everyone who votes uses PWO. You can nominate matches in the nomination section by writing a short paragraph about what you like about the match and why it should be inducted. Doesn't need to be longer than 6-7 sentences.

People don't need to use PWO anyway. They just need to use *here*, and even then it would only need to be two posts in order to nominate the matches. Either way I'm interested in what these numbers 2 and 5 are!

I against getting rid of the nomination process because the real point of this project is the discussion it generates, not the actual list. Even if you don't see the list this forum is now a treasure trove of information/opinions about all kinds of wrestling that at least someone here thinks is really great, but just seeing the list on its own without any of the discussion around it doesn't mean a whole lot.
If a match you want to vote for isn't nominated, just create a thread in the nomination section and write a paragraph explaining why you think this match is great. We want to hear about it.

Yeah, I second Kad, KB8, and Control on this. If there are questions about this process hit up a mod or check HERE. No need for PWO, just a quick defense of your nomination and it is nominated.
